Peter was commissioned by LIFT to create is a series of alternative tourist trails led by local residents.
Workshops were led by Peter and theatre director Corinne Micallef, exploring the rich history and cultural mixture of this rather neglected region on the eastern fringes of London. The tours lasted approximately one hour. Each one was led by a Barking resident and blended historical fact with personal memories and reflections on life in this fascinating and fast changing area. There were tours centred on the local fishing industry (which had once been of national importance), the pub scene (both current and past), social history (especially of the Quakers) and the Church and Abbey ruins. The tours ended with the screening of a short, summative film shot on the River Roding which runs through Barking and into the Thames, shown in the evocatively named Ice House where a cream tea was served and conversation flowed, Barking related and otherwise.
